  • PhysiotherapyHere at Plym Physio we deliver a physiotherapy service with a difference. We still believe in the hands-on approach with our clients but we feel there are lots of other ways to HELP YOU HELP YOURSELF on the way to long term recovery and good health.

    We pride ourselves on keeping up with current evidence and research so that our practice always delivers the best care. We don’t do things that are not proven to aid recovery.

    Physiotherapy promotes recovery from injury but now physiotherapy is increasingly used in injury prevention, movement efficiency and general wellbeing as physiotherapists are the ‘movement experts’.

    We want people to feel and move better and we have a lot of tools at our disposal to ensure this including;

    • Acupuncture – There is increasing evidence for its effectiveness in treating lots of musculo-skeletal problems including arthritis, back pain and sciatica. All our therapists (and the clinic) are locally and nationally registered.
    • Exercise therapy – Probably the most evidence-based tool we have. From minor postural corrections to muscle patterning re-education, it all works so to ensure you get the true value and  long term benefit from your treatment, we’ll encourage you to work hard under our direction HELPING YOU HELP YOURSELF.
    • Kinesio-taping – The use of taping is becoming a common part of practice with its beneficial role in pain relief as well as its effect on improving muscle and joint function as demonstrated by athletes and with its versatility it is becoming more and more popular  with both therapists and clients.
    • Electrotherapy – There is still a place for the use of machines but this tends to be less in isolation and more alongside other treatments as our knowledge base grows.
  • Plymouth PilatesPlym Pilates is not your average Pilates. It is a pilates-based class that has evolved to address an individual’s movement needs to promote healthy, safe, efficient and painfree movement.

    Exercises have been developed based on normal movement biomechanics to retrain muscles and joints to move more efficiently, something that may have been lost through the presence of pain, injury or lifestyle demands.

    Plym Pilates is ideally suited to people who perhaps struggle to participate in general exercise for one reason or another.

    Our pilates classes are small, usually around eight participants but during covid this is reduced to 5, and are tailored to individual needs and are ability led. We therefore fully assess everyone coming into the classes so we can place them in the right class for their movement deficits and needs. They run as a ‘course’ made up of a one hour session once a week for 8 weeks.

    There is a range of classes from beginners to advanced, slower paced up to the power pilates class. This is the newest class which has evolved from the advanced class to provide an environment for those who already perform at a level of activity but have the odd niggle at higher levels or been told they need to develop their ‘core’.

  • Movement Analysis
  • We all move, some of us less efficiently than others  and some of us  can experience pain as a result of those inefficiencies. Physiotherapists are the ‘movement experts’ so are ideally placed to analyse how a person moves and put together programmes designed to address these issues. This more preventative approach is a more modern way to look at treating musculoskeletal problems and can be applied across the spectrum from the young to the older patient as well as from the amateur athlete to the elites. Our new physio clinic is not only spacious and modern, but we built a state of the art studio which is used for our popular Plymouth pilates and “Physi-go” classes. With regular classes and our clinic open for treatment 5 days a week our offering is second to none with happy clients from Plymouth and the surrounding areas coming back to us time and time again with a smile.

Although our team have years of experience between them, we understand that no injury or ailment is the same.
